Conducting a field visit to the Batifa District to investigate areas affected by recurrent landslides.
On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the Geology Department of the University of Duhok, in collaboration with the delegation from the Department of Geological Engineering at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, conducted a field visit to the Batifa District to investigate areas affected by recurrent landslides.
The field investigation focused on the geological and geotechnical characteristics of the affected areas, with particular attention to lithology, structural conditions, and the factors contributing to slope instability. The recurrent landslides have posed significant challenges to road infrastructure and public safety. Special emphasis was placed on understanding the potential triggering mechanisms of landslides, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.
